Biography

Mrs. Abimbola Omowunmi Tiamiyu, FIIN, is a seasoned insurance professional with over two decades of experience in underwriting, claims management, and professional education. She currently serves as the Registrar/CEO of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), where she leads initiatives to elevate standards and promote professionalism within Nigeria’s insurance industry.

Her career in insurance began in 1999 at Great Nigeria Insurance Plc, where she gained valuable experience in both life/pensions and general business insurance. In 2005, she joined Cornerstone Insurance Plc, holding various roles including Group Head of the Central Claims Group. In April 2018, she joined CIIN as Director of Examinations before rising to her current leadership position.

Academically, Mrs. Tiamiyu holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Olabisi Onabanjo University, a Master’s degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Ibadan, and an MSc in Risk Management and Insurance from the University of Lagos. She became an Associate of CIIN in 2005 and was conferred as a Fellow in 2014.

She is also a certified trainer in microinsurance by the International Labour Organization and has undergone training from the United Nations Development Programme in climate disaster and risk financing. Her industry contributions include active participation in several professional committees, such as the Market Development & Government Relations Sub-Committee of the Insurance Industry Committee.

In her capacity as a representative of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, Mrs. Tiamiyu serves on the Governing Board of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), playing a vital role in shaping policy and promoting excellence in the Nigerian insurance sector.
